Generic water-quality monitoring will tell you a number moved. It will not tell you that ORP has been falling for six hours while turbidity climbed and circulation stalled, and that the combination is exactly the shape Pythium likes.
The Bacterial Risk Index is a single 0–100 score derived from six factors — ORP, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature and circulation — weighted for how each one actually contributes to pathogen risk in a recirculating hydroponic loop. It is scored against seven CEA pathogens specifically: Pythium, Fusarium, Pseudomonas, Erwinia, Phytophthora, Clostridium and Ralstonia.
It is not a lab test and it does not replace one. It is an early-warning number that moves before your crop does.

Questions
The things people actually ask.
Is the BRI a substitute for lab testing?
No, and we would not claim it is. It is a continuously-computed early-warning score from the water chemistry you are already measuring. It tells you when to look, and when to test.
Why not just watch ORP?
ORP alone is noisy and easy to misread. The risk that matters comes from combinations — falling ORP with rising turbidity and stalled circulation is a very different situation from a brief ORP dip in a well-circulated loop. The index is built to separate those.
What if a probe is missing?
The score redistributes across the factors it can still see and tells you which input is absent, rather than silently reporting a number computed from less than it looks like.
