Running out of plugs is not an inventory problem. It is a production problem that inventory failed to warn you about. A count taken on Friday tells you what you had on Friday — it does not tell you that the March plan needs six thousand more plugs than you own and the lead time is three weeks.
Inventory holds what the farm actually consumes: seed lots, grow media, nutrients, packaging, and the spares that keep the room running. Then it reads forward. The production schedule already knows every planting for the next six months, so demand is a forecast rather than a hunch, and low stock is flagged against a date rather than a threshold.
Seed lots carry through the whole chain. The lot consumed into a cycle is the lot the recall report names months later — which is the difference between a traceability system and a traceability project.

Does it order for us?
No. It flags the shortfall, and CultivAid can draft the reorder. A person approves it. Purchasing stays a human decision, with a human name on it.
How does it know what we are going to need?
From the production schedule. The plantings are already laid out six months ahead, so the platform projects consumption forward instead of waiting for a count to go negative.
Why does the seed lot matter so much?
Because FSMA 204 traceability starts there. If the lot that went into a cycle is not recorded at the moment it is consumed, no amount of reporting downstream will reconstruct it.
